With all of the recent sightings in Great Britain, a woman has come forward with a story which casts doubt on the UK government's alleged propensity for openness about UFO events. At least, 29 years ago, and I don't think there has been any change lately.

In a letter to the editor of the East London Advertiser, she recounts her experience, which occurred when she was a student nurse at a hospital in Leicestershire:

"The object appeared to hover above a hedge, glowing red. A white hot plume came from one end of the object, and I could hear a droning noise. To this day, I remain puzzled because the object was above me, quite low in the sky, I cannot remember seeing it move from above the hedge line."

"I got a real close look as it passed over me, clearly it was a triangle shape with lights at each point, a raised area from the tip to the middle of the other end, with a raised disc shape in the middle. Then whoosh! It was away faster than anything I had ever seen."

The Ministry of Defence visited the woman after she reported her sighting. They showed a great interest in her account, even asking her to make drawings of what she had seen. The lady was startled however, when she was instructed not to tell anyone what she had seen that night. She was told only that there had been other reports of the object that very night. She never heard from the Mod again.

This instruction causes me to wonder why. Was this event of great significance? Or, was the government testing some secret triangle-shaped object that night? I am trying to find more details of this case, but so far, I have come up empty. What do you think?

Scott L. Felton of the Conwy UFO Group in North Wales, UK. has sent details and photographs of a UFO sighting in the UK that occurred recently. He states in his message to me:

I have been given consent to circulate the following pics in the hope of obtaining an opinion on what you think the object might be. The object in question was sighted traveling from the Colwyn Bay direction towards Glan Conwy, then turning towards Deganwy.

It disappeared from the eye witness' view, and returned some ten minutes later, following its original route seemingly. It was not quite dark, but only the light could be seen. The same pics have been given to a local newspaper, but as usual, no response was forthcoming. Maximum distance from eyewitness at nearest point is only about 1 mile. Actual altitude is not known. Any comments would be appreciated to pass on to the witness/photographer.

I have a few sighting reports to share with you this week that I think you will find of interest. Our first one is from an About.com reader.

California-08-11-08-Off of Highway 33 by Ojai in California by the 21 mile mark up the Highway towards Rose Valley, we saw an unusual flying object. It looked as if it was hovering in the air the same way a person would tread water. It had an usual flight pattern. It would go straight up and down, in a quick zig-zag motion.

It changed its color from white like a star, to something with a little colored light. The lights appeared to shine in a fluorescent gray-white color to other colors. It appeared to look like a a star and later another craft smaller appeared underneath it. The second craft flew in our direction and then took off. We saw the first craft hover for at least an hour. We went up there to see the meteor shower.

We saw four meteors, and there is a big difference between a comet and a flying object that hovers and appears to be in the same position until it suddenly zig-zags or changes its color or flies straight up or down. California-08-18-08-I was on the computer and had a feeling to go outside, which I do every night. I asked my husband to come out also. We went out to the back yard, and I looked up, but didn't see anything, so I went out further and then a plane went by, which we heard, but then this bright light the size of a plane without wings came over.

It was faster than a plane, not like a jet nor a helicopter, because we see these all the time, living near an airport. We have also seen the space station, but this was much closer. What made us think it was a UFO was because it went brighter, stopped, and just stayed there for a few seconds, maybe a minute. We were shocked and thrilled at the same time. source: www.mufon.com

Illinois-09-17-08-I was taking the dog out for her last bathroom run in the back yard. When I turned to the south to go back in, I noticed the light over the roof of the house. I am familiar with the night sky in my area, and this was a new light in the sky. Even with my vision, I could notice it was flashing red, green, and white. I took the dog back in and got my binoculars, and continued to view the object. I went into the house and had my wife come to look at it. She saw it as well. After she left I continued to observe it for another 20 minutes.

Intermittent cloud cover moved in and obscured the stars, but the object was still visible. It was apparently below cloud level. After watching for another 15-20 minutes, the light suddenly vanished. I waited until a break in the clouds, and located the surrounding stars, but the flashing light was gone. source: www.mufon.com

Pennsylvania-08-15-08-I had just come from seeing my fiance at super break (between 8-9 PM on Friday 15th of August, 2008) on the bypass 220 coming from State College, PA to Bellefonte. Going on 220 is where I saw it. The sky was clear and it was starting to get dark, but you could still see all of the sky. There were two clouds, one was bigger than the other on top of this lime plant close to Pleasant Gap.

I really did not think much about it. I thought maybe it was lightening, but I noticed it did not move. On top of it not moving, it also started to shoot colorful lights from it like a boomerang shape. So I do not know the shape of it because it was hiding behind the 2 clouds, but it went back and forth from the shaping of the lights coming out of the clouds. I do not know what happened to the lights because I was traveling on a main highway. I was on the highway for at least 5 minutes.

These lights in the clouds would show for 20 seconds and then vanish, then reappear a minute later. I lost sight of it when I got off the Bellefonte, 2nd exit. Rhode Island-08-16-08-I was walking on the track on the field at East Providence Senior High School on Pawtucket Ave, in the city of East Providence, Rhode Island. I was completing a lap around the track, when I noticed a black sphere approaching from the southwest and traveling in a northeasterly direction.

I stopped walking and paused to see what type of bird, plane, rocket or balloon it might be. It took me about 10 seconds to rule out an eagle or hawk, and another 15 seconds to rule out a balloon, and as the sphere got closer, it was obvious that it wasn't a helicopter, there was no thumping sound or loud turbine sound. The object did make a sound, but it wasn't a sound that I can reference to anything I have heard before.

The sphere was traveling at a speed around 250 miles per hour and on a horizontal, linear path. The black metallic sphere was traveling below cloud cover, and at an altitude that I have commonly seen commercial airplanes taking when they pass over East Providence and head to Green Air Port in Warwick Rhode Island. source: www.mufon.com

Recently, I read an interesting article about UFOs in Cuba, which is a country we rarely hear from when it comes to extraterrestrial related material. The article tells us about the history of UFOs in the Communist county, which began on or about 1950. After relating a number of some of the best known sightings, we are told about an alien abduction that occurred there.

This account sounds almost exactly like some of the ones from the United States and Great Britain. On Sunday, 10-15-1995, near the city of Torriente, Matanzas, an elderly farmer, Adolfo Zarate, saw an unknown object about the size of a car, landing at this farm. One thing I thought of that you may or not think kind of funny, is that instead of thinking of the object as being "like a car," in modern terms, maybe it was a Cadillac or Lincoln, both of which were about a block long at that time.

Anyway, to continue the story, the UFO sat on the ground for a time, and then a humanoid being emerged. The being, wearing some type of helmet, or face covering, took some samples of the vegetation. After some kind of explosion, the craft took off. The authorities came and investigated, and did find depressions on the ground, indicating that something had been there. Also, the Ministry of the Interior conducted an investigation, but reached no conclusion. Of course, this occurred during the hey days of Ufology during the United States, and probably these reports filtered to Cuba, which in turn began the ball rolling there. So, there are UFOs in Cuba.
