The couple, who only go by the names of Robert and Anne, has come forward with their account, not only in the local newspapers, but also on several UFO radio shows. The couple was counseled by UFO investigator Mark Petty of the Massachusetts Mutual UFO Network, MUFON. He advised the couple not to come forward with their story until the case was fully investigated, but the couple felt compelled to tell their story to the world.
The incident began on Sunday, December 12, 2004, when Robert and Anne were enjoying the evening at about 7:10 PM. Soon, they saw a glowing light in the night sky. They first noticed the phenomena through their sliding door which led to the outside deck.
Robert described the sight as "a huge ball of brilliant white light coming toward the house from the west."
The size of the object was immense, according to the couple as big as several football fields, covering the landscape with glowing light. The couple was mesmerized with the glow, which did not hurt their eyes, although it was extremely bright. Soon, a pale, blue light appeared on the deck, forming a perfect square.
This light totally covered Anne, lifting her off the deck. Robert, attempting to save his wife, grabbed the door with one hand as an anchor, and his wife with the other. He was able to pull her back into the house. He immediately shut the door, and looking out, the object was gone! Anne, who had been rendered unconscious during the ordeal, woke up, but remembered very little about what had occurred after she had seen the blue light.
As they were composing themselves, they received a phone call from Robert's sister and her husband. They had seen a large ball of light in the sky, with a blue trail behind it. They lived about 5 miles away. Robert had blisters on his hand from contact with the blue light.
One more unusual incident associated with the observance of light, Styrofoam-like material which seemed to have entered the house when the door was open. After icing down the blisters on his hand, he went to the garage to get his shop vac, but when he returned, the substance had disappeared.
A background investigation into the report showed a number of other UFO reports in the same area, and within a couple of months of the incident at Billerica.
